hi all. Just wondering how others who are totally blind get round reading their letters? I usually have to rely on someone to read the post for me. Unless its a bank statement or internet and phone line bills as ive managed to get them to send them in braille.
I have a scanner that reads some of it. But the scanner is pretty old, and so for the mail it won't read, I get a friend to help. I do get my phone bill in Braille, but it doesn't really matter anymore because I pay all of my bills online.
online is best for me too
we use a combination of things.wwe have a friend who goes through the stuff and we use a scanner and we pay most things on line.
I either scan them or my mom reads them to me. I don't get bills to pay yet, but I will likely pay them online when possible when I do.
I just do everything online. I never really get printed mail other than bills, so don't need to have anyone read it to me. Still, cards and the like are nice whenever I get them.
I have scanners and software too, but as has been said, it doesn't read handwriting.

Online for bills and all. I also try to get everything sent to me via email I'm interested in reading. The rest I just ask someone to look at it. Mostly now I've got it down to junk mail, so.
I must agree, online is best.
Most bills have an online option. As for other companies/other people, you could get them to send you Emails instead, if possible. Scanning works sometimes, but like many others have said here, it doesn't always scan very well, and it certainly doesn't scan handwriting, and I've never been able to get it to scan Christmas cards, birthday cards, ETC.
